Hi everyone, my goodness what a time we are having.

Firstly I need to inform you that my website is presently down. I have been dealing with malicious attacks and so I decided to come to my rather neglected blog to assure you that I am still very much in business and in fact as busy as ever!

The website is presently being worked on by the experts and hopefully will soon be live again.

I do apologise to all those who have spent time trying to get hold of me, I appreciate the fact that you have visited me on this platform now.

I realise that over the last few days I will have lost many visitors and that amplifies how important websites have become to modern day business. However there now still remains many other ways to find me (details below)

Enjoy a couple of photos, I have SO many more on my website! I will update this blog with the website condition.

One more thing... My teaching channel is growing and I am having such fun creating content and interacting with my Patrons, they are such amazing people!Do have a look, it is SO cheap to join and watch many many many videos I have added on "how to engrave glass" https://www.patreon.com/glassengraving

I hope everyone is safe out there♥

A Selection of happenings in my life over the last 6 months......

I was once again amazed to see that 6 months had passed since my last blog entry, where on earth does time go to?? I have been busy so that usually eats up the days it's true.
I have put together a selection of images from the MANY I have on file. Instead of adding the chosen ones individually I have grouped them in little collages, I hope that they open up big enough for you to see the details!
Above is a commission I had a few months ago, a thick heavy optical crystal free standing wedge circle. I hand engraved the cow on the back and sandblasted the lettering on the front.

This was a lovely commission to do, a special presentation to the two craftsmen who renovated the Alfred Corry. I drew the details of the vessel from an old photograph on my computer to suit my sandblasting technique, keeping it simple and neat but showing as much detail as possible. I then print a very clear transparency and make masks for each decanter out of photo film mask which I then use to sandblast the crystal decanters. There was no hand engraving involved.
I engraved at several events last year for Bombay Sapphire both for promotional (press event) and the public. Mainly at Selfridges both in London and Birmingham. At the events I hand engrave the bottles but I also sandblast bottles they send to me at my workshop for presentations to clients. I also engraved Grey Goose last year.

Then I was back in Harrods engraving for Givenchy, such beautiful perfumes. I have also been sandblasting bottles for their clients at my workshop.
Then look who I bumped into again.... :-)

I played loads of golf last year, my second year as Ladies' Vice Captain. I managed to win a few trophies which was fantastic, both individually and with my mixed partner. What a team!!
Then in December I was voted in as the Ladies' Captain at Halesworth Golf Club, for which I am extremely honoured and proud! I have a super busy year ahead and am really looking forward to it. With this in mind I must remind anyone wishing to come and see me, please make an appointment, especially if you are travelling from far. Keep in mind that Thursday is Ladies Golf day at my club.
This is a lovely Dartington Crystal candle holder which I engraved a while ago, the little girl is on the front and the moon and star on the back. I took a photo on my phone of the moon together with this star one evening at home so I am happy that the angle and positions are correct. I have put this in my ETSY shop which I have recently re-opened. Do pop in and have a look. I have just this week sold a crystal wine glass with a bee engraved on it to a customer in USA from this shop.
This chap is also in the shop, "Cockadoodledoo" ... he is hand engraved on a crystal whisky glass.
One of my pre-Christmas commissions was this lovely set of wine glasses, each with different flowers, what an enjoyable commission that was.
A very special presentation was made last year to the Captain of The Hong Kong Golf Club by the Captain of Lindrick Golf Club to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of the club. Lindrick will celebrate the same anniversary this year. What an exciting trip to have made, lucky Captain!
I exhibited 2 pieces in the Guild Of Glass Engravers exhibition last year at Morley College in London. A breathtaking display of the best engraving you could possible wish to see! I met up with Mark Raynes Roberts from Canada, and Freddie Quartley from London, who were also exhibiting.

This was an incredible event to engrave at, Johnnie Walker Symphony In Blue, Merchant Taylors' Hall, London. I cannot begin to describe it. There were 3 sessions for the guests to enjoy. Each guest experienced 6 different situations for which to partake of the whisky, (you will have to search some of the detail on the web) they then enjoyed a massive banquet (I was lucky enough to be a guest at one of them) after which was a cabaret that is beyond words! The event was created by those that created the London Olympics opening and closing ceremonies....that will give you an idea of the scale! I engraved on Johnnie Walker Blue and King George V .... breathe....slowly.... these were VERY expensive!! Some I was engraving at 11pm!
I attended the Guild of Glass Engravers AGM and Conference in London at The Artworkers Guild. It was fantastic to catch up with old friends and fellow engravers especially Nancy Sutcliffe (pictured above) and Edmond Suciu !
Here is a delightful commission I had at the end of last year. I had to engrave 2 small diamond shape glass panels (Opti-white low iron glass) for St. Mary's Church, Swaffam Bulbeck. A memorial to Leonard Jenyns. Have a look at my Facebook page to read a little more about it.

I had a very busy day engraving for L'Oreal at a press Event in London, not glass but lipsticks this time!
Here's something different....A photographing challenge for sure! Yuletide/winter solstice celebration with Old Glory Molly Dancers.....arriving from across the moors at Geldeston, rural Suffolk, on a cold winters night...so authentic, it was like being transported back in time. I enjoyed it with a dear friend and we just had to have a pint of the special Ploughboys Winter Warmer Ale! The rest of my photos are HERE.
Above and below are a few more of the #glassengraving commissions I had between August and December.....
...and for those who have followed my long family story...here is a lovely piccie of my two sons Gavin (youngest, on the left) holding my grandson Mason and Shane (on the right, dad of Mason). How I do miss them.... oh so much! Thank goodness for Skype and computers and Facebook! They live in New Zealand and Australia! My heart is swollen with such pride. I LOVE YOU GUYS XXX
I wish you all happy engraving out there and always experiment and practice if you are learning to engrave glass, don't be afraid, just get in there!!!

I have to also admit that I get emails and phonecalls every single day from all over the world!! I wish I could help you all, but as you can imagine I simply can't answer everyone. So many questions! There is a hunger for learning glass engraving. Again I say when I have more time I will be able to create more videos, probably write a book, but in the mean time I have to earn a living and life is very expensive ... not to mention of course this year I will be involved even more in my golf, it is a one year position. So please understand if I don't answer your correspondence. There is a lot you can learn from my little videos if you keep watching and practising.

Take care everyone!!! Have a wonderful 2015! ♥

All new year, bright and sparkly!! New glass engraving video.

Hi everyone, I hope that all those in UK have not been too adversly affected by all this snow! It is a bit of a novelty here in Suffolk, for me anyway, luckily just enough for fun and not major disruption as I have only 5 minutes of driving to get to work! I did have one day of digging my car out and waiting for the farm digger to clear a roadway off the farm, but that was sorted soon enough.

The last couple of months last year were pretty hectic with work, to say the least. For me it is a time of many awards and presentations as well as Christmas gifts large and small. Many I had no time to photograph.

I did take a few though and I have added them below. The Guys Hospital Trust awards took place as normal, I have completed their awards for a number of years now, smaller monthly Care awards as well as the major annual awards. This year, being the Olympics, they had run an extra group of awards and I had to create some engraving with quite tricky hand painted colour infill. The colours blended with a rainbow effect for the logo and then I had Gold Silver and Bronze to include. I mixed my own bronze colour by adding a little of the black paint to a deeper gold paint. I sandblasted deeply first to contain the paint. These paints are NOT permanent and would not be suitable for anything which would be washed regularly.

These are rather lovely heavy lead crystal whisky decanters, they make excellent presentations. They are £47.36 before engraving.

An interesting subject to engrave, a daddy-long-legs, but with maximum accruacy as it was for a serious bug expert, to put it lightly! This is an optical crystal cube.

On several occasions I have been asked to re-create a major award, where the original is handed back and the winner gets a small token as a reminder, or when the same piece is awarded to two people to share. Once I engraved large crystal bowl for a winner of the Chelsea Flower Show, this one was for The Francis Elkin Award. The glass is a piece I had in my showroom for some time, a spectacular large hand blown and very old trophy shape vessel with the most beautiful sounding ring, it even rang when I sneezed on one occasion!!!  I had been looking at it an waiting to be inspired with a masterpiece, but had not come up with an idea before my dear friend spotted it and decided it would be perfect for what they wanted!!! I had bought  it years ago off a deceased estate of an engraver (who no doubt had also been looking at it and waiting for something special to engrave)

I did not really want to part with it yet but I had no choice but to give in, it was indeed perfect for the job, it was its destiny if you like. I wonder if magnificent glass objects have a special soul?

I love engraving the subject of trees, why I don't know, so I was delighted when I was asked to engrave these for a gentleman in the UK by his daughter who lived overseas. Quite special.

I was asked by a returning customer, to engrave another special gift for her husband.  They have some meaningful memories regarding the subject and it was well received according to a lovely email I got from the recipient which brought tears to my eyes! What a sop I can be sometimes! This is a stunning heavy Atlantis Crystal decanter.

I had this gentleman ask if I could copy this old engraving. It had been broken whilst being framed. I had not heard of the engraver and aparently it was pretty old. It appeared to have been engraved with a diamond point, very neatly, so I engraved it in a similar style but with my drill, copying it as acurately as I could. The glass used was non reflective 3mm glass. An interesting exercise. I signed it with both my name and the original name.

Sometimes a simple monogram on a beautiful delicate Dartington Crystal port glass is just the job!!

These are great little glasses which I have in stock, the Glencairn Glass. I have my Scotch out of one at home, especially shaped for the nose.

Then it was December and we were OFF!!! 5 weeks holiday in New Zealand, to spend valuable quality time with my 2 sons, my grandson, friends, sunshine, golf,....and more golf!

....oh boy, then back with an icy bump!
My golf experince will be rather different from now (once I can get back onto the course) as I am now very proud and delighted to be the Lady Vice-Captain of Halesworth Golf Club
(18th white...I mean green...pictured below).

My morning dog walks of late are pretty spectacular!

....and pretty chilly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...anyway, then I decided to do a quick new video whilst things were not too busy yet, I have been thinking of this theme for some time. I am FAR from an expert at filming and just enjoy playing with the very old camera (with remote control) and some decent software (which I know about 10% of how to use)
It is a light hearted look at basic glass engraving.

Stay safe out there and be happy!!

A busy 'ol autumn in Lesley's world of glass engraving

This is what I spend many many hours doing and I don't often mention it!! Vector drawings for sandblasting. Corel Draw X6 (64bit) and my Wacom Intuos 4. I had photographed my clients tiny signet ring with the crest seal, then flipped it (as it was mirror image) and after artwork was complete, flipped it back and engraved it underneath a paperweight.

I mentioned in a previous post that I was engraving a self portrait
The styalised image of my face was stage sandblasted into the back.
The hand engraving of the oak details are back and front

"Lesley Pyke - Self Portrait.  Deep in thought - The Autumn Years." I am surrounded by the strength of oak which is largely my partner, Brian.
My two precious sons, Shane and Gavin, forever in my mind and represented by the two acorns. The crystal is Dartington, I carved it from a large vase.

My little Georgian Garden (above) is presently for sale on eBay. It is a special little piece.

Remember this photo.....an old, heavy crystal bowl, unknown origin, badly scratched and looking so sad, now has a new lease of life...a whole new image, a brand new story! "On The Edge"

The Cambridge Glass Fair was held a couple of weeks ago and I have to say was not as successful as usual for me, the numbers were down in general, largely due to the very threatening weather reports (we only had drizzle!!) and of course the new venue, Linton Village College. This venue was superb, once you got the hang of it, I think we were spread out into 6 different areas, with some long passages inbetween, so visitors got a little confused. I need to make some changes to my stand to show up a little more next time as I was probably the furthest point from the single entrance. We all had a big learning curve with this new venue and I am sure it will be more successful next time. Hats off to Paul and Christina for a massive job well done under such difficult circumstances (with Chilford Hall having burnt down not long before).
Pictured above is my stand.

I zoomed around with my camera to catch some setting up activity and to see where everyone was. I loved the airiness and lightness of the rooms.

A wonderful mixture of old and contemporary glass and crystal throughout the fair.

Above are the lovely Georgian reproduction works of Georgian Glassmakers. (who made my "Georgian Garden" presently on eBay and also "Georgian Dragon" (presently on the Guild of Glass Engravers exhibition)

Two famous brothers in the glass world, Vic and Ian Bamforth, Wonderful, talented glassmakers!

Always a privilege to be amoungst so many lovers of glass, wish I had more time to devote to creating more art glass for this event.

Lastly....I am presently working on a set of 3 perfume bottles for a client with little ladybirds doing their thing...and a very high profile presentation due for the end of the year in South America and on the cards is a new and very exciting collaboration with 2 American artists for a fabulous and amazing commission....watch this space...
